Creative 550 cord storage

Postby Magic Wombat » Tue Jun 15, 2010 1:35 am

I stumbled across http://www.survivalstraps.com today. It demonstrates some ways to creatively store 550 cord on your person or gear. I am not advocating buying anything from there, I just thought the site contained some cool tips.

I personally have some gear that I wrapped and braided paracord handles on. You can never have too much of that stuff on you.

I've got enough to garotte a fool wrapped around my wrist.

Yeah, it's gotta be polka dotted and have a few strands of mauve to qualify.

Now that I have actually gone to the site, I see what it is - a few years back there used to be videos and pics on the 'net to show you how to make these things - I spent a few hours one time creating a few of these sorts of things and came to the conclusion that they were a p.i.t.a. to unravel when you needed them. What I wound up doing is just wrapping the hell out of about 25' of cord and tying it as tight as I could and put it in a small pack that can fit into almost any pocket with some various other gear to make a nice survival pack out of.

There is nothing so nice as a blade, mosquito netting and cordage when you most need it.

The rifle sling is an interesting solution for a woods gun/survival rifle. I'd put one on my beat-up .22, but it would look tacky as hell on a nicer shooter. Just like their belt! That thing is fat.

Not willing to pay fifty bucks for it, but possibly willing to learn the weave and make one over the course of a few TV shows. Plus, once you've learned the 'stitch' you can probably make the rest of that stuff easily if you feel like puzzling it out.
