International Press ID

Postby bearanddragon » Sat Oct 02, 2010 12:06 pm

Not really "gear", but I didn't know what other board to put this up on.

I've been tentatively looking into getting a press ID. Not only to talk my way into places, but also perhaps to give it a shot down the road.

Does anyone know anything about obtaining IDs? Here is a site but I have no clue about its credibility:

http://internationalpress.com/index.php?file=join_us

Was wondering about the credibility of this site, or if there's some that are better that I should be looking at.

No way that ID will work, IPA is well known as nothing but a Press Pass Mill

Start a blog, print your own press pass

But having a press pass wont get you in anywhere - you will have to get a event specific pass for whatever event you are trying to get into, and you need to be a member of a 'real" journalist association or working a low salary job for a bloated/unprofitable print rag or have a hook-up

So no free live sex shows for you dude

kho san road. I like it. I'll be in and out of Thailand anyway.

No interest in starting a blog. But thanks for the heads up on the ID mill.

oh hell yeah. although I did end up meeting a hippy out here in Afghanistan. The dude no-shit wore a cap with a peace symbol on it, spoke in the hippy drawl, and wandered around with a tucked in 9mm. WTF. An armed hippy? Then I come to find out the guy lives on his own out in town and does things his way - whereas as a Marine we're handheld through everything and treated like damn infants out here.

The guy was prolly more badass than most Marines I met out here.

It won't be the fake press pass its the Kodak Instamatic that gives you away. Most street journos carry a festoon of ID's and enough Canon's or Nikon crap to break a donkey's back. Don't forget to not shave and look like you just got back from Afghanistan or out of rehab. Its a carefully cultured look

But for real access to real people or events you need "accreditation" from the event, military, organizer etc. Real press and real celebrities treat the media like the parasitic scum they are :)))

Plus if you want to get into an even for free just wear black pants and buy a security guard jacket complete with badge - works every time

I don't know shit about cameras unfortunately. That's also half my problem; I don't want to lug around all that shit and be responsible for it.
