Andoid Survival Apps Reference (Nice Shit!)

Does not hurt to have this stuff on your teli. Also be sure do download the compass app (free) from the App store, it is very good. And of course Google Sky so you can find the North Star etc for navigation. Keep your maps updated so the GPS works well.

Not saying anyone should depend on a cell phone for survival, but EVERY system rocks. Why not have a survival app loaded phone? Never know what that "bit of luck" that might save you ass actually ends up being.

Except for when one has used the last bit of battery to update their Facebook status to "properly fucked"

I saw this on a friend's phone and thought it was really neat.

Or you could use the actual sky to find the North Star. The display is much larger.

I thought it was cool because it showed all the constellations. I can only easily identify a few, so I enjoyed it.

There is a compass app that works very well. What is nice about Google Sky is you can see were the North Star is and other constellations during the day when you usually would not be able to. Also out in the desert or something at night it really is a blast. A great way to actually see all the constellations. You just aim the phone at the sky and it shows all the planets etc.

android does have a lot of nice applications for trekking, aside from the compass and constellation maps. they also have stuff like topo maps and aerial overlays that can be used in conjunction with the GPS even with no network availability required (as long as you pre-load the maps onto a memory card). very handy. and battery power is less of a concern, especially with portable USB chargers. even combined they can be less weighty and cheaper than a lot of the consumer GPS units on the market. stop hating just cuz shit's trendy. if it works well,it works well.
