What do you guys think? I am not to fond of the holster. Seems gimmicky a bit.

Looks like something out of "Krull"
"If you sit still the birds shit on you, even Buddha, life's short so get out there and do something"

Looks fine to me - I just don't like Gerber's "mystery steel" they use in their knives

Seconded. Never had a serious problem with them (in fact I've EDC'ed a Gerber for ~10 years) but the steel:
a) is not a disclosed alloy
b) doesn't seem to wear like my other knives

I like the full tang on it. The sheath does look a bit funky. I'd get it, ditch the sheath and get one made out of Kydex with a normal friction retention system.

Or this: http://www.coldsteel.com/oda-san-mai-iii.html

I was thinking that if I ever stumble upon money that must be spent on a knife, I would get a leather sheath. Looks like the Green Beret knife. I also EDC a Gerber blade. ( Combat Folder Mini ) but the quality of the blades seems soft.

I think that Gerber is trying to get some extra sales by making Sheaths, which as built in China or other non American workshops. Easy way to make money.

Agree - looks like agood knife but quesionable sheath. I have thought about getting one of the Gerber LMF series. Anybody?

Got the LMF. Well It's ok. Let's put it that way. I have yet to use it in the field. So far the black blade is already completely scratched from no use at all. I am hoping that the finish is it's only problem. It made me like gerber a whole lot less. Disappointment runs with them.

I have also snapped the tips off of every gerber knife I have ever owned - They are probably fine for using in the states but I would never suggest a mil or contractor guy overseas buy one

Yeah, my Combat Folder tip broke. I just got the H.E.S.T. thinking of getting the ESEE 6 for my next stint.

I've lost a tip as well, now that I think about it. Like you say, fine for mundane chores, not good for heavy duty.

You know what the most useful blade that I'm using right now - and it reflects the fact that my normally exciting job is currently at a desk-jockey: in-the-field ratio of 5:1 or something like that: a small paper-cutter. It's usefull, besides for cutting paper, cutting water bottles and making cups out of them, cutting open MREs, boxes or drink, the odd care package, tape, and other things that us desk jockeys need. At $5, it's been worth every penny.
You paying attention? I'm talking... G5, Pecker! That's how you can roll. No more frequent flyer bitch miles for my boy! Oh yeah! Playa... playa! Big dick playa!

http://www.benchmade.com/products/140 - get a Benchmade, better quality, better value than Gerber.

If you can afford/justify/use it to its potential, get the original knife that Gerber imitated with your first post:

Made from CPM S30V stainless steel. Information on said steel follows:
