Rally Fighter

drooling over this vehicle online all afternoon restored some morale that was lost when I saw the plastic yuppie mess that is the new Land Rover Defender.

Ok so its a fast looking expensive car big fucking deal. Read into the site.

An internet designed, crowd sourced car made up of standardized parts made by major companies. Local Motors, provides frames and bodies and provides two tutored seminars where you and a friend build the car at their micro factory in the USA. The thing is made with top notch components and you can change them if you want. The down side is the cost - $75000 but at the end you have a car that can race SCORE and still drive on the streets. This thing could monster truck RR Evoques all day.

Ok not practical but how cool would it be to take for a spin? I'd try to convince them to do an AWD and Hemi combo but I'm a long way from dropping $75K on a toy right now.

Top Gear USA did a review of this car and loved it.

Top Gear UK and Jeremy Clarkson did a review of the hated Evoque...and also loved it. Apparently in spite of the Victoria Beckham designed interior and the frilly looks, the Evoque does well off-road and on road..but I would rather have the Local Motors car.

It looks a bit tall to be good in the bends. I saw the TG US and it was pretty good, but I am not quite sure rally good.

Despite its "rally" name its not really built for tight twisty WRC corners, its a desert pre-runner with 20 inch travel on the suspension. Its built to take big hits in a straight line really fast and keep going. Think Dakar or Baha rig for under $100K.

I would love to see this compete in something fun like the Breslau rally. Team DPx Gear? probably not RYP's thing. Magpul's Unimog entry looked like a fun idea.

I would totally be into that. However I think dpX gear would be more likely to sponsor a Plymouth to Banjul type rally.

Our own Qwazy Wabbit did something like this already.
