I've had a pair of Keen Hood River water shoes/boots for several years. I mostly wear them for wading while fishing, and have probably never walked more than a couple of miles on land with them per day, but I've been happy so far.

Definitely boat shoes. I would buy a pair if they came out with some with fly fishing style studs and felt. And I don't even fly fish.

I might try these this summer for wet wading. I have waders and felt sole wading boots from Orvis for colder water and I love felt soles (no studs though). Just make sure you don't transport invasive species from one body of water to another. Oh, and make sure felt soles are legal in your state.

EDIT - You can try adding studs to sandals with soles like Keen's. Check this out - http://www.tenkaratalk.com/2011/06/wet-wading-with-sandals/

I know Orvis sells these, and I'm sure Simms does too. Just look around on the web...Orvis and Simms are a bit pricey.

I've had Keen Newports for years - I like them a lot for walking around on streets in hot weather (I hate flip flops) or biking - but I don't like kayaking with them because they get full of sand and pebbles getting into and out of the boat or hiking if there is a lot of loose rock or dirt to contend with. I've switched to the five-finger vibrams for kayaking. For hiking I prefer a light boot or cross-trainer/trail shoe with a gaiter to keep the pebbles, twigs and thorns out.

Those are not desert wellies. They are sandals and are worn by people who wear sandals.

This is a desert welly to be worn by people who don't wear sandals. Image
They're third party safe too because it is scientifically proven that it is impossible to kick someone to death if you're wearing desert wellies. If you don't believe me, try it. Jesus did not wear sandals, he wore desert wellies. Fact.

May God have mercy on us all.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

To stop shoes / boots / sandals from smelling:

Put them in a bag and put said bag in the freezer for 48 hours.

That will kill all of the skank-producing micro organisms.

They go in a bag so that you don't end up with gnarly ice cubes.

I have worn shoes for several years and the freezer method works like a champ.
