E&E, personal survival kit

Postby missiontripper » Mon Oct 20, 2014 2:15 pm

What is in your E&E, personal survival kit?

I have a Leatherman, glow sticks, button compass, SAS saw, Fero rod, Pepto, handcuff key and Cipro when out of the country. Thinking of getting some kevlar cord and a Bogota's pick set.

I'm just curious: under what circumstances do you expect all these items to be of use?

If I tell you, then I have to...

While traveling to any place or hostile environment, one should always "be prepared".

Leatherman- Too many uses to list.
Glow sticks- Light. In some places the only power is from a gas or diesel generator. They only run them a few hours a day.
Button compass- To find coffee.
SAS saw- When you find the "money shot" and a tree limb is in the way.
Fero rod- Fire for cooking (see glow stick answer)
Pepto- Sometimes the food isn't that great.
Handcuff key- Kidnapping. Lots of people recently in the US have become victims.
Cipro- See Pepto comment.
Bogotas- Some places don't have keys or only one key. If you secure your stuff you need to get back to it.

Sure these all have other uses. But it is all about you and your tradecraft.

I have 2 machetes, a couple boxes of matches, and a pack of vultures that follow me around to clean up the mess.

To be honest, I have no experience in kidnapping people, nor in being kidnapped. With that said, I assume that, if I were to be kidnapped, my hosts would probably relieve me of such items as, for example, handcuff keys. Moreover, unless your hosts are, for example, the using police-issued handcuffs, which I would only expect if you were, say, kidnapped by the police (I think they call that being arrested) those keys would be of limited use anyway. But then what do I know :)

Probably time to get some new ones. They only last 20 years.
