Best Micro-Digitals

Postby SRR » Fri Dec 10, 2004 5:10 pm

So I'm considering entering the Digimital camamerama race by getting something small, discreet, and easy to use in very non-camera friendly situations. My old APS camera has grinded itself into oblivion I think so I need a pocket-sized replacement. I still stand by my 35mm behemoth for 'proper' photos but for the 'discreet' section I was looking at the micro-digitals.

Anyone had experience with the tiny digital cameras? Good ones, bad ones?

Just like the legendary MINOX spy camera which stands for miniaturized precision mechanics, the new MINOX DD1 also creates excitement through its unique design and technology concept.

MINOX – a name that spells exclusiveness
Just like the legendary MINOX spy camera which stands for fine mechanical precision in miniature size, the new MINOX DD1 also creates excitement through its unique design and technology concept. Pin-sharp definition and brilliance are guaranteed by the 5-element multi-coated glass lens. In combination with the 2.1 megapixel chip, the refined electronics and the specially developed software, you can be sure of brilliant images with natural rendition.

Concentration on essentials
This basic principle also applies to the MINOX DD1. All major functions are ergonomically designed and incorporated in the “mode” button on the back of the camera. No need to spend all your time looking up the operating instructions and you can get down to sheer photographic enjoyment straight away.

Precision that fits into every pocket.
This was the set task for the development team. And based on an entirely new interpretation of camera aesthetics the skilled designers managed once again to furnish another milestone in MINOX history. The body of the DDI is shaped as a round and flat basic form. The heart of the camera – the lens – is the core element and also forms the major component in the quality chain. The stylish shutter release, battery compartment and USB connection are arranged as marked features on the outer edge of the camera body and award the MINOX DDI the distinguished and unmistakable character that makes a classic camera. This extremely compact digital camera, which weighs just 90 grams / 3.21 oz and measures a mere 75 mm / 2.95 inches in diameter, is designed to become your very personal chronicler – which accompanies you wherever you go to record those moments that have to be captured.

Cheap ass things but that's the way I like my travel equipment. I'll buy something better and small later. Either way this will make a good 'discreet' camera and I won't fret over losing it.

NEXXTECH MICRO DIGITAL CAMERA
Take up to 99 pictures in CIF mode or up to 26 shots in VGA mode. Features 16MB built-in RAM, 640 x 480 pixel resolution, 1/5000 second shutter speed and auto power off after 30 seconds. Comes with pouch, USB cable and CD-ROM software. 251-2828

lil' snappers

I dig the sony cybercams - they range from 2-5 megapixels, some have zoom, all have various flash settings and they're all small. i've got the most basic one, it's somewhere between a bic lighter and a cel phone in volume, so it disapears in the pocket. it's snapped over 5000 pics all over the world for three years and still running strong. tripple A bats, easy to find and it came with rechargeables. holds memory sticks so you can save as many images as you can shoot. image quality is respectable for websites and emails and whatnot.

also, casio makes a slick ultra-thin pocket pistol, but i've never used it. looks like a small cigarette case.

I guess this question could appropriately go here. It has been suggested to me that I begin to look into lightweight reliable miniDV camera, possibly with HDV built in and if it recordds straight to DVD then it would be even better.

I was told to think of high speeed, portable transmission for video, pics, voice and print. Basically I need something pretty top-of-the line and giving me the potential to transmit information in the quickest manner possible.

So, if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear from any of you!

Much Thanks.

Dawn
Passion is necessity. It is not diligence, or simply being committed to a goal. Passion consumes you while you chase down your goal. Passion should always be your natural state of mind for it is what sparks momentum and sets the pace.
