Please Recommend a WiFi PDA/Pocket PC

Postby Jon » Sat Feb 12, 2005 4:53 am

I'm looking for a WiFi PDA or pocket pc under $200 or so that I could use in the U.S., France, and Germany. Something compatible with Outlook would be great. Internet access is a plus, but I'm particularly interested in checking and sending email. I'm thinking that this might be a good alternative to internet cafes.

All suggestions are appreciated.

Blackberry?
I see everyone in The City (financial heart of London) using them, but I'm no gadget freak.

Dunno.

Outlook compatable would mean you would want to get one that ran Windows CE.

(btw Outlook is just an e-mail program, so any e-mail program will do)

Sony Clie's are getting cheap now ..the older , less fancy ones with wifi might be on E-Bay for the price range you are looking for.

Be sure to get one that will run a version of the "netstumbler" program to help you find open wifi spots

I have a wi-fi sony clie UX-50 that is great - I have AOL PDA version on it and use T-mobile for hotspots like Starbucks etc etc. In addition my community has free hotspots that it picks up and I can read and send email right from the sidewalk. I also have a Pocket PC PDA with a wi-fi adapter - it works ok but the pocket version of internet explorer is not very robust and it won't open some websites (I have been known to read BFC from either device from street corners).....
