Just ordered a copy of Jupiter's Travels. I was going to get 2 Wheels Through Terror, but maybe I will wait til the price comes down. I have been wanting Mark Bowden's new book too.

Finished 2 Wheels Through Terror a couple of months ago - interesting reading about Glen Haagstad's experience being a "guest" of a the ELN for a few weeks. He has a website www.strikingviking.net - interesting guy.

I just got Jupiter's Travels but haven't started it. Just ordered "Ghost Rider" by Neil Pert.

Kinda have gotten into the historical novels of Bernard Cornwell - esp. the ones about Vikings.

Just finished Last Round: The Red Caps, the Paras and the Battle of Majar by Mark Nicol. It follows the events leading up to the murder of six RMPs in Majar al-Kabir. A lot of it focuses on the intense fighting that two multiples from 1 PARA had to endure before being extracted. This battle ("Four Tonner Down" as it was dubbed created a blood feud against the "white tribe" which subsequently led to the Red Caps being murdered.

Thomas Pynchon's Against The Day. I'm only 25 pages in and have had to look up 3 words: Absquatulated, vol-à-voile, and clarionet. I've lived such a sheltered life.

Just finished reading Thomas Pynchon's 1085-paged novel "Against The Day", it only took me 2.5 years! Hey.... I've been busy.

The novel is a sprawling vignette covering every corner of the world, and the other-world, between 1891 and 1921..... from Chicago to Venice to Colorado to Siberia to Tuva to inner earth to California and finally into Torino and onto Paris. Six languages, abstract algebra, late 19th century scientific theory explored, obscure colonial factoids expanded upon, intimate knowledge of geographies and gastronomy and train travel and stamp collecting before the Great War that only a time traveller could have. Dozens of interlocking characters fictional and non. Even the airship's enterprising pet dog finds love in the end. A fine piece of literature.

Pynchon is releasing a new novel latter this year, forget the name though. The last decent book I read was The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga,a brilliant pitch black comedy about modern day Indian. Adiga also just put out a new book of short stories, I think it's called Between Assassinations, that's next on my list...
