I like my watches nice and simple. I want to see big figures, the date and even day and it should have a light. I don't wear a watch to pose with and too many fancy dials confuse me. I don't need a status symbol.

Well, not quite THAT extreme but you get the point. I was away when my dad went for some tests as he had not been well for some time having had several minor strokes and increasing chest problems. I phoned them to be told that my dads specialist had given him twelve to eighteen months due to mesothelioma (asbestos cancer in his lungs). I flew home and went to stay with them. It was as if my dad was holding out until I got home because the next day he had a massive stroke. My mum and I nursed him for six days until he died, four days before my birthday. I had bought the watch already but my mum thought it right that it should be a gift from dad so gave me the money out of his wallet to pay for it.



The black background is a photo voltaic plate, the same as they use in solar panels now, because it works almost as well with any light as with sunlight.

Photy - haven't heard that for a while. My drinks mat is telling me "Dinnae fash yersel" and I always used to be told not to tak a scunner sae easy.

I picked 'photy' up from a Scottish friend of the family when I was a kid and have used it ever since, especially as unless I concentrate when I type photo or photograph - I almost always miss out the second 'o' when I type it. One of those bizarre mental blocks. ... or alzheimers

Fossil Speedway Chronograph or the Wenger Swiss Military Dive Watch... both have taken a beating and still look pretty good. It just seems silly to me to drop more than $150 on a timepiece...

On the trail or during travel, I usually wear for a lighter, cheaper, less aesthetically pleasing digital watch. It keeps good time, gives me a timer, alarm clock, stopwatch and calendar all at once... I can't complain. Mine is made by Armitron and is about 4 years old. It ain't pretty anymore, but it's still my favorite for travel...
