You don't need to "hump" an AK everyday to understand it.

I'd like to see some rich dude to torture an M4/M16 like so :

Most of us already know what would happen :(

"Too hot!"

Funny!

Thanks for sharing that.

At that point, a dude might need to find a weapon more suitable for that sort of sustained fire.

M249 perhaps?

I can appreciate defining the term "firepower superiority" by putting more rounds downrange (and faster) than the enemy can deliver, but that's really not the kind of "superiority" that I would buy an M/AR for.

I think it's kind of funny that the pistol grip on AK type rifles creates a sort of loophole in Michigan. By that state's law it turns it into a pistol. Meaning they can then be carried loaded if concealed with a concealed pistol permit. I guess it's just the thing for some people who then carry them in tennis bags. Underfolder concealed carry, anyone?
Your normal hunting rifle is limited to being carried unloaded, if I understand correctly. To prevent people from poaching deer from their vee-hicles.
It seems as if the downstate vs northern Michigan legislative negotiation process has created somewhat of a comical web of regulations that sometimes even California can't match. Just that California's are a bit more tragically comical.

I shoot an AK by feel and can hit small things at 200 yards. If I actually behave myself and use the sights, compensate for wind, bullet drop and previous shot I can probably impress friends at 300 - 400 yards. The M-4 just doesn't float my boat. In my opinion its a finicky, tiny noisy little thing designed more as a neck ornament than a combat gun. I haven't shot the bigger top ends but there is something ergonomic and intuitive about the AK that I can't get from the M-4. I won't even waste time with AR 16 or long gun cuz I feel like Gomer Pyle with a squirrel gun. I like the FN and the Galil but I am intuitively an automatic pistol and AK shooter. I give good grenade too. RPG's mess my hair up too much and mortars take all the fun out things.

The AK is great for under 300 meters - if you want to reach out further than that go with an M4

With optics I can go out to 500 and hit targets [moving and static] around 65-75% of the time while under high-stress - At a range I can up that to near 100%

But I am really not very good with optics - I would go as far as to say I am shit with optics in general - unlike other people who can shoot optics out long distances without thinking I have to think about each shot, I have seen other guys go out way past 500 under stress with an AR/M4 without trying at all - Long range shooting is a actually a skill I am going to work on this year [along with belt-fed weapons and weak handed pistol shooting].

Generally i would give a shit about learning to shoot way out regularly with optics but it is looking like I will be in A-Stan in the near future and all the guys I know there are telling me to bring my Optic Shooting A-Game with me

I'm not being flippant james, but did you lose your dominate eye ?
If you did, how did you adjust ?

I currently have a medical condition that is causing my strong eye to not focus correctly. Normally I keep both eyes open when I shoot , but with iron sights it's a challenge to see the front post and the target down range.

I do have a prescription for glasses but I don't want to have to rely on them.

No need to "Polish" the AK fcg, just shoot it and let it wear in. AKs get really smooth with wear.

As far as front sight adjustment,........all you have to do is drift the drum in the desired direction. A C clamp and a 1/2 in socket works great.
