The photo ipod is a great option, I don't have it, and I would not drop the cash on it if you already have one

Why not get a free ipod?

I know you've probably heard this shit before, but I already got one ipod. You have to get five friends to try out an internet deal like columbia house or netflix of blockbuster rental thing. Not that big a deal, and doesnt attract any spam or anything. Not trying to spam the site, but thought I would offer it up.

Here is a tech tv episode where they try it out...

sviz,

I've also been looking and digital storage to offload my CF cards to without the need to lug a laptop around. After looking at all the various options around I'm about to buy one of these:

http://www.compactdrive.co.uk/

It downloads very fast (couple of mins for a 512Mb card), has a long battery life, unlike most, and I can use rechargable AA batteries in it and don't have to carry around yet another heavy charger etc. There has been some talk on a couple of photo forums about it not having voltage protection, but that seems to have been worked out and most people I've heard from who have it say it beats ipod photo, vosonic stuff hands down.

Maybe an option to consider?

Plimsoll - Hey thanks!!! This is an awesome tip - appreciate it very much. Looking over the specs, features, and price looks like a good gadget and one I'd consider.

This has been a recent topic of consternation for me, as I'm going to be doing some traveling in Southeast Asia before spending 4 months in China teaching English. I just got a compact 3.2 MP digital camera with a 1 GB memory card, but I was planning on signing up for XDrive (online storage space) and using Internet cafes to upload pictures to it periodically. I figured it wouldn't be a big deal, but should I really be considering other options? I really don't like the idea of bringing a portable CD burner (expensive, and have to lug CDs around) or a hard drive storage device (expensive, possibility of HD failure) because of the added weight, and the potential for them getting stolen. I could buy a few more memory cards, but I would prefer uploading them to a storage space, because that's probably the best way to ensure the photos won't get lost. The 1GB card means I won't have to offload pics too often, but if I won't be able to at all, then that could be a major problem...argh!

So should I seriously be considering options other than Internet cafes? Most of my time will be spent in China, so do any of you have specific knowledge of the situation there?
