I was never consistent with gear until a couple years ago. Sometimes I would ditch the helmet,(and sometimes the vest on really long missions.) ....On my bikes I would sometimes not wear a helmet, gloves and other PPE. A buddy of mine said that he had a philosophy of " All my gear, all the time." I just adopted that, and it has become routine. The rules of the companies I work for, or the places I travel through dont mean much to me, but if I adopt a personal philosophy about a certain issue, it tends to stick. I just become committed to not failing myself once adopted. That mantra worked for me to break a bad habit, anyway.
