Those knives are beautiful. Damask steel always looks good. There is a knife there that is made of cabled strands, flattened, hollow ground and this exposes the stranding with beautiful patterns. Wow!

The really good things about knife making are that it can be a one-man operation, quite compact, use simple tools, cost relatively little to set up and makes use of a website to sell INTERNATIONALLY. Some displays on YouTube etc., etc. is good for promotion and the knives are cheap to send around the world.

A cable damascus was my first crack at knife making and I pooched it badly. My second attempt was better with a normal pattern weld type knife but I want to take another crack at the cable knife. While I was struggling with the cable steel, my instructor was making a damascus steel knife from a Harley chain. Looked pretty cool.

that second knife with the diff heat treated hamon looks really good! I'm getting into it as well, sans instructor...maybe later I'll sign up for classes if I can find them locally.

not all of Ed's stuff appeals to me but his use of "cast away" steel like chain saw blades, motorcycle chains, and cable from oil rigs is interesting. I'll definitely go back for more workshops. I have two more blanks left from my first Damascus forging to finish also.
