In Scotland, Buckfast is associated with drinkers who are prone to committing anti-social behaviour when drunk, especially drinkers under 18 years old. Its high strength (15% ABV/14.8% in the Republic of Ireland), relatively low price and sweetness are characteristics that are thought to appeal to underage drinkers.[5] The drink also has a very high caffeine content, with each 750ml bottle containing the equivalent of eight cans of cola.

So you're going to give 16 year old girls wine instead of cash?

Black Opal from Australia is cheap and OK. Simi is a decent US wine. My personal favorite is Chateau Talbot.

I prefer bourbon though. Old Crow especially.

Damn tasty tonic. It's a rite of passage that most (barring Caliban) of the Brit Isles flaggers have been through. Skull a load of Bucky, get smashed, partake in a few years of petty crime such as indecent behaviour, lewdness, drunk and disorderly, vandalism, affray, contempt of court (turning up in court blotto from the Bucky) and non-payment of child maintenance, then head for the nearest DP.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying inexpensive wine. There are so many good wines to be had in the $10-15 range (or less). Drinking ordinary wine on an ordinary day makes you appreciate the great (and more expensive) wines on special days all the more.

James, I expect you will develop a more sophisticated palate over the years, and learn to appreciate the really good stuff. For now, enjoy the great deals you're getting in Kurdistan.

What the Bride refers to as a Tuesday night wine, Peirano Estates The Other, $10-14, an inexpensive red blend. Personally, I like the bottle....

Sounds like Buckfast is more the Strawberry Hill of British wines, rather than 20/20. Just a guess.

I don't know shit about wine but when I have to bring a bottle somewhere, I always get an $8-12 Malbec (since I sometimes get work from the Mendoza Tourist Board, so I figure I'm paying myself) and everyone is like, "OMG Malbec is like totally my favorite wine!" and then they drink it. Even my wine snob friends, who fill my glasses with $60-100 per bottle wine (and, to be fair, they do taste better than the $6 bottles of wine, I think), seem to appreciate the Malbec. Also, if I see a Hungarian wine with a good score and low price, those also seem to impress people. California probably has better wines for the price, but no one ever gets excited about them, so I don't bother buying them anymore.

Wine is wine. The only thing that matters is the price (preferably for free, nicked, or home-brewed) and the alcohol content. All the rest is poseur shite. Drink up and shut up.
