I'm starting to dig this Petr Beckman chap. Maybe I won't once I get to know him better, but an academic and a libertarian who called Communism a religion. Well, most religions do have totalitarian socialism at their core. Population control still hasn't changed since the development of civilization. The fact that he challenged Relativity makes him a little suspect, but I think that just gives him "color".

Two of the finest ladies on the beat and two of the most professional. Marie Colvin may be gone, but the sisters are still out there getting the job done.

Nice, added to wishlist.

I'm about three chapters into this:

It's a bit rah-rah "America is the best" for my tastes, has already gone on a few arbitrary political rants, and tends to repeat himself and stretches a bit in his metaphors but is a quick read and am looking forward to hearing more about the actual operations in Afghanistan. It's quite a contrast in tone from some of the Navy SEAL / Ranger books I read when I was younger of accounts from the more politically-fraught Vietnam war. Beyond that though I'm always interested in seeing the mental game these guys have in overcoming the insanity of their training and their missions and am already garnering quite a bit from it. I wish there were more books about PJs out there as they seem to be equally tough and highly-trained but overlooked in the media of the elite forces.

Also recently read is Michael Pollan's "Food Rules" which makes far more sense than any other 'diet' / nutrition book I've ever read and easier to apply to life.

Sex and Racism in America. Calvin C. Hernton.

Well written and should be required reading in school. It's uncomfortable subject matter, but essential reading on the subject of race in America.

Since I've started working on Botany of Desire at FriendlySkies' recommendation, which mentions the Dutch Tulip Mania, it's reminded me of Popular Delusions and Madness of Crowds, which should probably be required reading in public school. Unfortunately it's considered beneficial to society for people to be easily deluded and driven to madness.

Finished this a few days ago:

Secret History: The CIA’s Classified Account of Its Operations in Guatemala 1952-1954

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0804754683

Now reading this:

Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0805082409
It seemed like a good idea at the time.
