unfortunately it was not much of a surprise. he'd been fighting the big C for a while. they had to cancel their last tour because of it and MCA was unable to be present at the rock n roll hall of fame induction as well. a nerdy white jewish kid who became a universally respected hip hop pioneer and continued strong even during a time the whole movement seemed to be sinking into gangster rap clones. don't get much more baller than that.
