If you would have mentioned state oppression and the fact that every state does it,I would have given you a luke warm. The point too was to show that Canada was prepared to accomodate Islam years ago while at the same time targeting certain groups for cultural assimilation...some of them christian. Islam has had it easy in Canada.

Doukhobors sound like a decent group of people. But there were already plenty of christians in the great white north so I'm guessing some of the other christians felt threatened by them. Whereas with muslims there was no existing group with any clout. That and Canada's immigration policy seems to be focused on stealing brains and keeping them in country. Which is different than the US, typically we educate foreigners then refuse them visa's and citizenship.

I noticed a lot of comments were about MY TAX MONEY WILL BE WASTED.

Does the apology include reperation payments or is it a 'gee, we're sorry about what happened so we will formally apologize' thing?

PS: My Canadian politics are shit. The only prime minister I can think of off the top of my head is that Jean guy.

Golfed with one of the supervisors of the busiest border crossing between Seattle and Detroit a few days ago and the big focus now is on Somalis. They're catching quite a few trying to sneak into Canada in their quest for freedom...I imagine most coming from Minneapolis. Somalis are getting a lot of headlines these days.
