Check out the Yamaha XT Tenere. If you want to go cheaper and dont mind how ugly it is, check out a used V-Strom, they are bulletproof, go anywhere bikes. I like the European market Yamaha in 660cc better than the American market version. Stronger drive train.

ugly is great by me if functional. just has the added benefit of being less likely to get stolen or messed with and i don't have to cry about cosmetic damage when i inevitably fuck it up.

what kinda bike is that there, m-a?

My old dual sport. Wasn't using it enough so I sold it off to a good home.

XR600's are tanks.

oooh lovely - woodsman has a V-strom as well - his is red. Excellent choice!!!! One of the big four of the advrider crowd - the others being the Kawasaki KLR 650cc, and one the BMWs (650 or 800cc or the 1200cc <-- too big IMHO) and the KTMs.

Pics when you deliver please :-)

Cool! The Adventure! So where you going first???? :-) Check out this event: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=737558 (WestFest 2012) and then this one right up the road from you: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=737558 (WetFest - although this year it is in Wenatchee instead of Cathlamet).
