Tanzania Fotos....

Postby svizzerams » Wed Dec 18, 2013 6:52 pm

I spent 3 weeks in Tanzania recently - most of that was spent in various national parks: Tarangire, Ngornogoro Conservation Area, Rubundo Island, and the south, central and northern Serengeti.

The Big Five:

Mutants?

Rhino calf in northern Serengeti lacking ears - the parents of this offspring were re-located here from South Africa. Theory is with the pressure of poaching in recent years the gene pool is getting small....

The lioness fight started like this when in the midst of domestic tranquility the two lionesses alerted on something behind where I was:

Image

Then:

Image

Followed by the two lionesses on the rocks leaping off followed by 4 others that came from god knows where, they chased this guy into the brush and were giving him a proper thrashing apparently when he burst out:

Image

Note the lion tails emerging from the brush....

Image

and the lot of them had a bit of a stand off right behind the Land Cruiser:

Image

But after he slunk off - the lionesses were quite agitated, and perhaps they were re-establishing some manner of hierarchy in the pride. The sound of 7 lions fighting a few feet away from me is not one I will soon forget.
