Which is pretty much why a guy like me was banging the girl you had a crush on.

Until his unfortunate accident.

I always had a crush on the smart girls anyway.

The dumb, pretty ones smelled like floral spray and tended to know nothing except how to flatter the guy they were with.

The smart ones read Henry Miller and Anais Nin. They wanted to explore their desires instead of serve someone else's.

Plus the pimply ones had acne caused by hormones. So you would often get a smart, quirky girl who had flat hair in an era of large hair and who wanted to listen to Ocean Rain in an era of Thriller.

It was always a good idea to sport a copy of 'Little Birds' or 'Delta of Venus' around the art college
A few choice quotes from 'The Pillow Book' by Sei Shōnagon and you could actually hear them moisten.

I tried that trick with 100 years of solitude but kept getting busted for having the book upside down. What a load of old shite that was. As a rule of thumb when you're a teenager, any bird that doesn't want to snog you after watching you down ten pints of snakebite, badly losing a fight against feeble odds before spewing up in the bus stop isn't worth knowing. And buys you three bags of crisps from the all night garage on the way home. True love dat.

Laux's book is just bad. I agree with everyone who gave it a 1 star rating on Amazon. Pezzullo should have known better than to associate with this loser.

duly noted. :)
where do we go from here?

Liespotting by Pamela Meyer:

Image

Solid. It's a quick read that discusses dozens of specific behaviors people tend to display when they lie, as well as ways that you can direct conversations and even organizations so that people are less inclined to lie. The last 25% of the book seems totally unrelated, it's about how to grow your business network. But that was sort of useful for entirely different reasons, so whatever. Probably lends itself best to detecting deception in a business setting - negotiations, the hiring process, company politics - rather than criminal or romantic situations.

The Profiteers by Sally Denton

Interesting read. I didn't realize how much influence Bechtel's had in MENA since WWII ended or their incestuous relationship with the CIA since OSS days.

Bechtel is super evil. I'm putting that on my list right now!

one of my favorites pieces is the diary of Hanno the Navigator. Its' like "discovered central Africa, discovered shit, skinned some locals, ran out of beer, went home" Then it took the Euros another 1500 years to rediscover west and central Africa http://www.livius.org/articles/person/h ... vigator-2/

too bad Hanno didn't map where he went. would pay to see that chart.
