Olympics: Rio 2016 - Commentary welcome

Opening ceremonies currently on (2230 hrs edt).
Am mid-way thru a fifth's worth of Moonlight 'shine with a squeeze of lime.
Musical opening dazzling, confusing.
Parade of the Nations has been going on for the past two hours and they're not even half way thru the alphabet.
New this year. Once countries have reached the floor, athletes are permitted to move around and not stay in their national groupings. Good idea.
Aussies look the best on the walk-in.
Winner of the "Athlete Having the Time of His Life" award goes to USA's Carmelo Anthony.
At 2300 hrs edt, NBC pundits have nearly exhausted the contents of their Bag of Metaphors.
Commercials every five to seven minutes.
If this keeps up, it is going to be a l-o-o-n-g world mega event.
The world will never love us. They respect us - they might even grow to fear us.
But they will never love us, for we have too much audacity!

Didn't take long for the "muh dick" business to start.

The Nigerian Jet Lag win over Japan was impressive.

The team was probably held up by someone in Lagos demanding a bribe. They got diverted to Atlanta, then Rio and Arrived 1 day late but just in time for their game against Japan and won.

Its cool that the first gold went to the USA for shooting.

Would have been sad to lose to the Chinese.

Friend Kurt:

If it is "de rigeur" for libtards to regard the Olympics as one long paean to their kind of Brotherhood (their sock-puppet pundits seem to think so), then do they cheer just as loud for a USA gold medal win for shooting as they do for, say, badminton?
Does this win affect the libtard proletariat in their ongoing struggle for freedom both for and against the right to pack heat wherever they want?

LOL Growpe (sorry, its your new name). That was a good one.

we all know that despite what is PC, brasil is a 3rd world shithole. is the crime level above and beyond or just getting a lot of press? rio is full of whores & thieves, but what about the rest of the country? any "nice" places to go?

I just watched the womens Rugby final between Australia and New Zealand, those ladies both played a hell of a game. Australia won it, because why New Zealand always?

I'm so bored of watching war on the news. Endlessly recycled footage of skinny poor people being patrolled fat foreigners in uniform, punctuated with sanitized post-suicide-bomber carnage, being used to sell "Relistor, delivering constipation relief for opioid users by blocking binding in gastrointestinal tissues." No. Give me Santo Condorelli any day.

Or Simone Biles.

Her grandfather mentioned that she was in foster care because her mother drank and used drugs and then he and her grandmother raised her, apparently doing everything right and then he worthless mother gets news time claiming that it was low of her dad to tell the public she was a useless mother.

That made me like her grandparents even more and was a great example of worthless leeches in life. Your daughter makes it to the Olympics and you turn the issue into hurt feelings because someone said something that was true.

Also I am glad they stopped showing pictures of that guy's broken leg flopping around. That gave me the willies.
