CNN aired 30 minutes of "hardcore transsexual porn" last night in the early evening. Real professionals they've got running that place over there.

Nice to see ColKKW back. Bravo.

It was a cable provider that did that, probably a tech being a smart ass on their last day.

I remember sitting next to Christine Amanpour on a flight into Kabul once. Hoping she wouldn't say a word to me and she was probably thinking the same. It was long ago, so I feel OK mentioning it with no name attached, but we had a CNN staffer on here for quite a while.

I like Amanpour's stuff and some of CNN. But overall, it's a Ted Turner Network, whose Soul Mate is Hanoi Jane and it shows. Nor have I forgotten even if I was post Vietnam.

I also remember when people thought the Borat interview on FOX was real and while people ranting about how right wing FOX supported his racism etc., the guy who did the interview was their token left wing guy to make fun of.

Remember when you had Walter Cronkite and the nation trusted him? (Goat Balls might be old enough to).

Ah, Hanoi Jane. I know her well. In many navy Chiefs clubs, they still have Hanoi Jane urinal nets. You can take a leak right on her face. Which is as it should be. I always looked forward to a invite to a dinner at a Chiefs club for that. Those guys would get really creative with the Hanoi Jane stuff.

I'm 55 and don't really remember Cronkite. And I don't believe in journalism or the news. It's all opinion or ideology. I tune it out. All of it and mainly follow numerous financial blogs. It's always about the money you know.

I worked with someone in Kandahar who guarded Amanpour in Iraq in the early days after Saddam's ouster. He did a lot of work with journalists before her and after, but he said she was the worst in every way. A dreadful woman.

I used to swap stories with him whilst sitting in the car waiting to get into KAF for a burger and a mooch, sometimes you could wait up to 4 hours or more to get through the Lithuanian checkpoint. Marvellous scenes.

Cheers

Yep, back when The News was read over clacking teletypes by boring men. I liked that a lot better than the "interesting" people they have now.

My guy was Hughes Rudd. My parents grew up on Farms and farmers either listened to The News on the radio or watched it on TV every morning after the cows were milked during breakfast and every day at 5pm (apparently during WWII 5pm was the news time in rural areas so people could listen to local casualty announcements). So I grew up eating cereal to Hughes Rudd. I was eating Cap'n Crunch Peanut Butter Crunch when he announced the fall and evacuation of Saigon. The plane crash from Operation Babylift a few weeks before the fall, the death announcement of Lyndon Johnson, and, for some reason, the Funeral of Harry S. Truman (I was only 4 then and I have no idea why I remember that).

After Rudd's death I learned that he was considered an expert in the works and life of William Faulkner, was fluent in French and French History. In short, the boring man on the TV was learned and interesting. I would not want to be stuck at a dinner table with Morning News people today.

I remember Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. Huntley and Brinkley. David Brinkley had that great speaking voice, had a sort of sardonic edge to it. As far as network news goes, can't say, 24 hour news networks have practically rendered them obsolete. I do like Andrea Mitchell as a reporter and as an anchor, she seems solid, and Lester Holt is decent.

People forget that newscasters used to not only write their own copy based on wires and conversations but time it to the second. A lot of the CBS gang you saw on 60 Minutes were part of that style that started in radio and print before that. What looked like off the cuff answers and descriptions were crafted to provide as much information as possible. And they had "radio voices" and a command of the english language. TV today i a mix of produced stories and bobble headed idiots provided by special interest groups. They are supposed to provide the "insight" and "color" that isn't in the original piece.

And then there are the commercials for the dying beached whales that still watch network TV. Today people are their own news channel. They can broadcast their entire day to themselves and post opinions about themselves while advertisers feast on their rotting souls.

Yep, I heard that Amanpour was hated by her co-workers from somebody well acquainted with her. I was fully prepared to cold shoulder her is she spoke then tell her to piss off.

"Business Class" on Ariana (Scariana). LOL, "Will you be having the goat? Or the Goat?"

Kam Air was the best though. I remember one flight to Mazar we used to take whose tires were worn thru to the cords. The pilots did not know how to fly and the engines weren't even in synch with eachother (we had a former Marine Pilot with us on one trip who gave me the details I didn't really want to know). The plane tires blew out on landing on their next run and the skidded off the runway into a minefield. LOL, over a decade of living like that is normal and then back in the US. Like trying to blend into a crowd with a dick growing out of your forehead.

Glad to hear the USN hasn't forgotten. I still can't believe that nobody ever offed that cunt. A terminally ill vet could have done one for the team before punching out or something.

And yep, today if you watch "the news" you need to have at least basic analyst skills to sort thru the mountains of Bullshit it spews. I do from time to time and you are filtering 80% or more.

WKRP always had a good staff though. I always thought Bailey looked better than Loni too.

The best bit about flying out of Afghanistan was the 8 hour layover in Dubai. Get off Ariana or Kam Air and then stand under the shower in the business lounge for an hour drinking cold beers and using up all the Molton Brown. Then get really hammered. Fall asleep in front of a film on the way home. Always thought you had to earn luxury to enjoy it.
