Sounds like most court cases then :-) Onus is on the judiciary to prove guilt.
Then again: you have Madoff, Weinstein and El Chapo locked up.
I am a rube from a small European country but I figure in their prime, all three of them had way more pull over in the continental USA than a lame-duck never-king Brit royal and some socialite chick. Pervy pics, white collar crime, delinquencies with minors, other rich folk type debauchery, international Jewry or Illuminati notwithstanding.
Maddoff was the shit.
In New York back in 2006 we hired a guy who worked as a Unix Administrator for Madoff Investments.
Since our systems were Real Time servers with a system uptime of 100% per year required (the system was large and actively redundant) we figured that the Maddoff guy would know his shit being from the high availability computing world of big finance. We hired him specifically because he worked for Madoff Investments.
After a great salary offer it seemed the guy did not know shit. I figured that a place like Madoff probably hired him as a fall guy.
In Financial stuff. Wall Street stuff. Managers get huge bonuses, so sometimes they hire a dedicated fuck up for $100k+ per year to sit and do nothing other than take the blame and get fired when the Manager's real team fucks up. So they give these designated idiots a title, tons of responsibility but they do nothing. So when there is a fuck up, they fulfill their real job by being escorted out of the building by security guards holding a box of office stuff. Then performance improves, the bonuses are saved and they hire another fall guy.
Since a place like Madoff would have given bonuses of like $3 million to System managers I figured this guy was just one of a fleet of fall guys.
Nope.
It turned out he and a massive team of morons were hired to maintain a system that did nothing other than provide user accounts for other employees who did nothing. He was hired by Madoff specifically because he was not smart enough to figure that something was up. His whole team was hired because they possessed basic computer skills but had no experience to figure out what was really going on there.
At the agency I worked for they had a massive Office Politics like purge. "Threats" were removed with lay offs so the whole place was run by mediocre people who surrounded themselves with idiots to make them look better.
Stupidity actually pays better than knowledge and skill if you are the right kind of stupid.
