Having worked with some of these companies I can answer this:
They are run by assholes.
And they are not "Nimble" either. There is a shit-ton of "Brogrammer" dead weight that sucks money and drives away talent.
I have two friends who worked for Uber twice. One guy was then a 30 something white, male programmer and the other guy was an Indian American MIS specialist who was over 50.
The white guy got hired because a friend of a friend recommended him.
The Indian guy got hired after 4 interviews spamming over 2 months. This was the first time they got hired during the Kalanick years.
The white guy ended up carrying all the other white guys hired as developers because they were all hired by "friend of friends" too, but unlike him they could not code for shit.
My Indian friend managed departments, not people but had to cede authority to whichever Tech bro was in charge at the time..so he quit.
My other friend quit because he was working for like 4 or 5 people.
After he quit then news was released that Kalanick was a dick, and that Uber was all date rape-y, drunk and useless but really those were exaggerations on what was happening there. The reality was that venture capital was being used to fund auto loans and $250k per year salaries for useless people, so the useful people bailed and nothing could get done anymore but their hyper "hire white dudes to party with" business model was not working so they had to get rid of their stupid founder.
So they did...but not for the real reason but for a reason that existed but they could get away with.
Anyway, when they got rehired after the dick-purge they each did two interviews and useless dude-bros were not able to veto managerial decisions or be carried by actual talent.
As far as AMD vs. Intel. AMD went into GPU production and their product got slurped up by Crypto Miners. With their CPUs they always played the long game against Intel and that was better performance at a lower price.
AMD also divested their Dresden Fab to form GlobalFoundries consortium where AMD's debt from all business went to it's silicon manufacturing arm. So they crossed out all debt and now own 25% of the worlds largest chip fabrication plant.
But nope, it must be lack of diversity hires and lots and lots of white guys that make AMD successful. Not a steady plan combined with clever deals. Nope.
Shit like this is why Trumpers are generally failures at managing things. They can only see one facet of a complex system and it is always the most useless facet.
